Grey's Story

On October 29, 2026, my wife was leaving work in Knoxville, a few hundred feet from I-275, when a pickup truck pulled out of a parking spot. Grey had been lying underneath it. When she walked toward him, he tried to get away, but he was too badly hurt to move. She called me and said she couldn't leave him there.

We rushed him to Dr. Vickie Howell at Vet Care Animal Hospital in Greeneville that night, where he's now recovering. X-rays showed a shattered right femur, a broken left rear leg, a broken pelvis, a dislocated left hip, and swelling of his internal organs from the impact. He never cried. When I turned up the heat in the car and gently petted him, his tail started to move.

Grey is being treated for an infection in his wounds, and his legs are responsive. Surgery is planned once he is stable.

Latest update: Grey made it through the weekend! He's a little grumpy from the pain and doesn't love being touched, which tells us he's alert and still fighting. But his wound is still infected, and the longer surgery waits, the bigger the risk. Dr. Howell needs half of his surgery cost before she can operate.
